Created by Morris Fuller Benton, URW Alternate Gothic is a sans serif font household. This typeface has three styles and was released by URW Type Foundry.

Alternate Gothic was developed in 1903 by Morris Fuller Benton for American Type Founders (ATF). The idea was to supply a number of alternate widths of one style, particularly Alternate Gothic No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, to be more versatile with regard to various typographic jobs. All 3 styles are black and condensed, and therefore work best for posters, headlines and advertisements.
