Americana was presented by ATF in 1966, the foundry calling it later on 'the most successful face ATF has actually introduced in several years'. It is the result of a task to 'go back to beauty', being designer Richard Isbell's analysis of that pattern'. It includes short, somewhat concave serifs, short ascender, and capitals not rather as tall as ascenders, while being rather broad. Americana is best used for Display and Heading settings. It can even be utilized for small sizes, but only for short copy.
