The effect typeface was initially developed by the English designer Geoffrey Lee in 1965. Ultra-thick strokes, compressed letter spacing, a really high x-height and minimal counters make this typeface ideal for a strong headings. Composing in 2004 Lee described that the design objective was "to get as much ink on paper as possible in a given size with the optimum possible x-height". Impact still remains a typeface with a lasting impact in type design. It is for example used for the Logo design of the London based railway station St. Pancras and the Logo of the Web Motion Picture Data Base (IMDb).
