This is a high-energy style that mixes the grace of an English Roundhand script with the gravitas of an extra vibrant Bodoni. There is even a bit of romance in the design. Vala talks with a resonant voice-- and understands few bounds. The typeface boosts print headlines, subheads, cover art and packaging. The design likewise brings its unique melding of vigor and grace to banners, headings, navigational links and branding in web websites, blog posts, games and apps.

Oscar Guerrero discovered motivation for Vala in store window lettering near his home in Bogotá, Colombia. "The capital A, R and V captured my attention and I photographed the window for future recommendation," he describes. "Later on I started to draw more letters influenced by the ones in the window." Guerrero admits that he has actually constantly appreciated the work of Giambattista Bodoni and permitted his classic Didone designs to instill Vala. Striking contrast in stroke weights, vibrant ball-terminals and a big x-height provide Vala the grace and force of a Waikiki wave.

Not satisfied with simply a basic character set, Guerrero likewise took benefit of OpenType's abilities and drew a total set of swash capitals, a bevy of expensive ligatures, and a suite of lowercase alternative styles. The outcome is that Vala easily imitates custom-made lettering in posters, headings and logotypes.

The "romantic" part of Vala? Guerrero devoted the style to his girlfriend, Valentina, and called it after her.
