Verdana Pro was created by David Berlow, Matthew Carter, David Ross and published by Ascender. Verdana Pro consists of 20 designs and family bundle options. p > The Verdana typeface family was created specifically to resolve the obstacles of on-screen screen. Verdana was initially designed by world-renowned type designer Matthew Carter, and tuned for screen display screen by the leading TrueType hinting specialist, Tom Rickner. The Verdana typefaces are unique examples of type created specifically for the computer system screen.

The Verdana typefaces are stripped of functions which are redundant when used to the screen. Verdana exhibits qualities derived from the pixel instead of the pen, the brush or the chisel. The balance between straight, curve and diagonal were meticulously tuned to ensure that the pixel patterns at small sizes are pleasing, clear and understandable. Typically puzzled characters, such as the lowercase i j l, the uppercase I J L and the number 1, have been thoroughly drawn for optimum individuality-- an important quality of fonts designed for on-screen use. And the different weights have actually been created to produce sufficient contrast from one another ensuring, for instance, that the bold typeface is heavy enough even at little sizes. Another reason for the legibility of the Verdana typefaces on the screen is their generous width and spacing.

The Verdana household received a significant update in 2010 as a collaboration in between The Font Bureau, Monotype Imaging and Matthew Carter. The initial Verdana household consisted of 4 typefaces: regular, italic, bold and strong italic. The new and broadened Verdana Pro household contains 20 fonts in total. The Verdana Pro and Verdana Pro Condensed households each consist of 10 fonts: Light, Regular, Semibold, Strong and Black (each with matching italic designs).

Verdana Pro includes a range of innovative typographic functions including true small capitals, ligatures, fractions, old style figures, lining tabular figures and lining proportional figures. An OpenType-savvy application is needed to access these typographic functions.
