VLNL Boulangerie was initially an incomplete set of early 20th century wood type letters, that Donald Roos discovered in a dust covered container box stored someplace at the Royal Academy in The Hague. Charmed by the letter forms Donald chose to print them on paper with a printing press. Next he digitised the prints as they came out, consisting of small flaws and damages. The missing out on characters were made up and added digitally to complete the alphabet. (See if you can spot those!?)
We believe VLNL Boulangerie is a little French in appearance (hence the name), it's cheerful, warm, a little crispy and round-ish. It defenitely has that 'je-ne-sais-quoi' that seperates it from the majority of wood type grotesques. It can be best for lettering on a store window of-- let's state a bread store or a lunchroom. Or a logo for a downtown hipster café. VLNL Boulangerie barely has any constraints in fact.
