Ralf Herrmann, the designer of Wayfinding Sans, started this task with extensive field research studies, driving tens of thousands of miles to explore the legibility of roadway signs typefaces in lots of nations around the world.
After constructing his own theoretical structure of pertinent legibility criteria, the style procedure used a special custom real-time simulation software application, which might mimic difficult reading conditions (range, fog, halation, positive/negative contrast) while the letters were in fact being designed. This process made it possible to enhance even the tiniest details of each letter for optimum legibility.
Being made specifically for wayfinding functions, this type family does not jeopardize on any aspect of legibility-- and yet, the typeface is a beautiful, clean and modern sans serif. With its broad language support and the a great deal of offered styles it is perfectly appropriate for any possible signs task anywhere on the world.
In an independent empirical study at the University of Applied Sciences "htw" in Berlin different typefaces were just recently tested when used on signs and Wayfinding Sans Pro was the winner in all performed tests, being considerably more readable and for that reason exceptional to all other styles of the tested typefaces.
