Up up until the arrival of contemporary packaging and shipping approaches, the typical method to mark merchandise or other items to be carried was through using a brass stencil.

These marking gadgets were hand stamped (or punched) utilizing metal dies that were struck versus sheets of brass to develop the letters, numbers and other signs [unlike the steel guideline pass away cutting method used for manufacturing paper stencils]

One such example of an antique marking stencil had letters and numbers around one quarter of an inch in height, and Stamped Brass Stencil JNL recreates the design complete with the unusual variations of character shapes and widths.
